Aerococcus urinae is a newcomer in clinical and microbiological practice, causing urinary tract infections, bacteraemia/septicaemia and/or endocarditis. This study presents for the first time an evaluation of the activity of a representative panel of antibiotics against a large number of A. urinae isolates.
Through searches in the laboratory databases we identify 16 iso- Exploration was performed but no necrotic tissue was identified. Cystourethroscopy revealed dusky looking urethra. A suprapubic tube and a urethral catheter were placed in the bladder. WBC trended down to 13.9 × 10(3)/μL on the fourth postoperative day. Urine culture grew Aerococcus urinae and blood cultures grew Alpha Hemolytic Streptococcus. Aerococcus urinae is a rare organism infrequently isolated from cultures.

Jul 20, 2016 We present the case of an elderly male who was initially seen in our hospital for a urinary tract infection that was treated with oral ciprofloxacin. He had recently developed urinary incontinence and was treated for a possible urinary tract infection (UTI) within the preceding 2 months. He smoked almost a Actinotignum schaalii and Aerococcus urinae as Etiology of Infected Kidney 2) leading to further 10 days of treatment with oral phenoxymethyl-penicillin (1 mill A. urinae treatment should employ penicillin, amoxicillin, and nitrofurantoin. Due to increasing antibiotic resistance, urine culture should include antibiotic Feb 28, 2020 There was no evidence of other embolic phenomena. The patient was managed medically with initial treatment with intravenous vancomycin and Jan 10, 2020 Patient treated successfully with appropriate antibiotic therapy.
46, 47 The genus was originally described in 1953 and now includes 5 species (viridians, urinae, christensenii, sanguinicola, and urinaehominis), of which A. urinae and A. sanguinicola produce most of the infections observed in humans.
Nov 13, 2016 Urinary tract infections are extremely, especially among women. Here are the top 12 natural home remedies for UTI, along with the symptoms
2015-09-28 · Treatment. A. urinae is resistant to Trimethoprim-Sulfamthoxazole (SXT) and Ciprofloxacin, an antibiotic used to treat A. urinae. SXT was commonly used as an empirical drug of choice for treatment of A. urinae which is not as effective as beta-lactam.
Aerococcus species are gram-positive, facultatively anaerobic cocci that form pairs, chains, or, most notably, tetrads. 46, 47 The genus was originally described in 1953 and now includes 5 species (viridians, urinae, christensenii, sanguinicola, and urinaehominis), of which A. urinae and A. sanguinicola produce most of the infections observed in humans. 46– 48 Aerococcus species are commonly
Penicillin is the drug used to treat patients who have endocarditis.
Unfortunately, there has been little investigation of treatment options in clinical trials, but in vitro studies have offered insight into treatment options for patients with A. urinae infections. Our patient exhibited a typical presentation for A. urinae infection, and in an ever-growing elderly population, knowledge and recognition of this potential pathogen is of increasing importance. 2020-06-09
Secondly, Aerococcus urinae also tends to be resistant to the antibiotics Trimethoprim and Ciprofloxacin, both commonly used to treat UTIs. Patients often only start to feel better if given active antibiotics such as Amoxicillin or Nitrofurantoin.

As SXT is a drug of choice for the treatment of uncomplicated cystitis, clinical studies that investigate the efficacy of this drug for the treatment of UTIs caused by A. urinae are required to determine its clinical value.

Aerococcus urinae is currently more frequently iden-tified since the introduction of MALDI-TOF MS tech-nique in routine laboratories. Serious infections such as endocarditis and spondylodiscitis are increasingly reported in the literature. This is a case of septic spondylodiscitis and bacteremia due to Aerococcus urinae with a urinary starting
2017-07-01 · A. urinae treatment should employ penicillin, amoxicillin, and nitrofurantoin. Due to increasing antibiotic resistance, urine culture should include antibiotic susceptibility testing. Prompt and culture-specific treatment is critical to avoid clinical progression of the infection.

A case of fatal endocarditis due to Aerococcus urinae is presented. Endocarditis should be suspected and, if confirmed, treated aggressively when A. urinae is recovered from blood cultures.
Two species in the genus Aerococcus have been implicated as rare pathogens in humans. A. urinae causes urinary tract infections; the other species, A. viridans , a gram-positive coccus considered a contaminant in cultures, has been associated with human infections that included bacteremia ( 1 , 3 ), septic arthritis (3) , and infectious endocarditis ( 4 , 5 ).
